Many people are talking about how to do meditation nowadays. People who have never meditated in their life are also talking about meditation. Let us examine this meditation. What is it?
What is meditation?
First of all, what does the word meditation mean? The English word “meditation” doesn’t really mean anything in this context since it doesn’t say anything specific. If anybody sits normally with their eyes closed, it is assumed they must be meditating One can sit with their eyes closed and do many things. You might have just mastered the art of sleeping in vertical postures. So the word “meditation” in English doesn’t specify anything. But in common terms, meditation means concentration of your thoughts in one place. We have many thoughts running around in our heads, but during meditation, we try to focus our attention on one thing, such as our breath as it comes in and out. Meditation is phenomenal empowerment because you can do whatever is needed in the world, whatever I mean, and still remain untouched by the process of activities that we need to conduct in the world. If you sit here, your body is here but your mind is not here, so through meditation, you can bring mind and body together in the present movement. Many people think that sleeping is also a kind of meditation, but it’s not true because during sleep your body is at rest but your mind is awake, whereas during meditation your body is awake but your mind is at rest.
How to do meditation.
1.) Locate a comfortable location.
Find a comfortable place in your home or outside your home, but no one should disturb you. You can sit on a bed or a chair, however and wherever you feel comfortable. You can sit because you have to sit at that position for at least 15 minutes, but remember that your back should be straight. You can use a wall to help you with this.
2.) Wear comfortable clothes.
Don’t wear clothes which are too tight in which you feel uncomfortable, such as avoiding wearing jeans or tight shirts during meditation. Consider wearing loose clothes like shorts, leggings, or t-shirts. If you wear tight clothes, you will not be able to sit for a long period of time.
3.) Determine how long you want to meditate.
Before going into meditation, decide in advance how long you would like to do meditation. If you are a beginner, you can start with 5-10 minutes. Then, in the future, you can increase your time. You can set a timer to alert you when your time is over. Otherwise, you will open your eyes and see the time periodically, so to avoid this, you can set an alarm.
4.) Keep your eyes closed.
Now the second step is to close your eyes. After you have found a comfortable place and a comfortable sitting position, the next step is to close your eyes. Close your eyes slowly and remember that you don’t have to open your eyes till you finish your meditation.
5.) Pay attention to your breathing.
Breathing meditation is one of the best forms of meditation to start with. Pick a place at the end of your nose and focus at that point. Now feel the air going inside your lungs and the air coming outside through your nose. Feel the rise and fall of your chest as you inhale and exhale. Don’t make any effort to change the pattern of your breath; it should be natural. Don’t worry if any thoughts are coming into your mind. It’s natural for the beginner to just bring back their concentration to breathing.
6.) Experiment with visualization.
A visualization is also a form of meditation technique. In this type of meditation, you can imagine yourself sitting in a calm place where no one is present, such as the mountains or near the beach, or in the forest where there are many trees and birds tweeting, and focusing on your breath.
7.) Sit at least 10 minutes on the first day.
If you are new to meditation, try it for at least 10 minutes the first week and gradually increase the time after that; the more you meditate, the better the results you will see.You will see the benefits very soon. And try to make meditation your daily habit like you do brushing and bathing. Likewise, you should meditate daily to see the result. If you are busy all day, then you can try meditation at night before going to bed. This will make your mind calm and it will also improve your sleep quality.
8.) The best time to meditate.
It depends on you, but many people say that the best time for meditation is in the morning after taking a bath and on an empty stomach. If you do meditation on an empty stomach, you can easily focus on your breath.
So these are the important points to start meditation. Now it’s time to start meditation. Stop thinking too much and just start doing it. You will see many changes in your life after doing meditation, such as you will feel calm and you will feel more productive in your work. Through mediation, your relationship with your family member or friend will improve. Meditation is a great gift given by Hinduism and Buddhism to the world, and you will see the magic of meditation once you start doing it. Go for it.
“Meditation should not be torture. It must be fun, start small. Even five to ten minutes a day is a great start.
